The Piggott School

A Church of England Academy

Return to school September 2021

Please find below the arrangements for the start of term and the new DfE guidance in regards to
COVID contact tracing.

Schools have been asked to set up onsite asymptomatic testing centres for the return of students in
September. Children will be asked to take two LFTs, three to five days apart. Testing is optional and consent forms will be sent out to parents.

We need volunteers to help with the LFT testing centre so, if you can spare any time, please contact
Mrs Preston at prestonc@piggottschool.org

The current plan, allowing for the testing site to be constructed and for staff training to take place, is given below. This plan means each child can have two lateral flow tests before starting onsite lessons.

Precise timings for when children should arrive on site for testing will be sent out shortly.
Staff will teach online wherever possible, starting from Monday 6th September for years 7 to 11 and 13. Year 7bchildren will receive logging on instructions for MS Teams via parental emails. Year 12 lessons will start later in the week, once we have registered all students for their courses, created their timetables, and balanced out class sizes.

It will be somewhat challenging for staff, especially new staff, to teach new classes of children online from the very start of term as the children will not have exercise books and suchlike. Subsequently, staff may set reading, review and research-based tasks until the return to onsite lessons. Morning registration will take place for year groups on the days they are coming to school for testing, but there will not be formal lessons.

In regards to contact tracing and self-isolation, from Step 4 of the roadmap, close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases will be identified via NHS Test and Trace. Educational settings will no longer be routinely expected to undertake contact tracing. Thus, if there is a confirmed case of COVID within the school, NHS Test and Trace will undertake any contact tracing rather than the school.

Also, from 16th August, children under the age of 18 years and six months will no longer be required to self-isolate if they are contacted by NHS Test and Trace. Instead, NHS Test and Trace will advise them to take a PCR test. The guidance is such that children and young people aged under 18 years 6 months who usually attend an education or childcare setting and who have been identified as a close contact should continue to attend the setting as normal. They do not need to wear a face covering within the setting, but it is expected and recommended that these are worn when travelling on public or dedicated transport.

Risk assessments have been completed and are under constant review for the return to school. One-way systems will still be in place, outside doors used wherever possible, and lots of ventilation together with revised staggered arrivals, break, lunch and finish times. School ties are to be worn from the start of the

Uniform

Autumn term. Children may wear PE kit on PE days, including Piggott tracksuit bottoms if they wish (non-Piggott tracksuit bottoms must not be worn). Face coverings will no longer be advised for pupils or staff, either in classrooms or communal areas, but may be worn if the individual chooses. Children should regularly wash their hands and use hand sanitiser.
