CERTIFICATES

As we prepare to welcome the 2025 cohort receiving their GCSE and GCE examination results, we are in the process of clearing certificates from the 2024 examination series.

Please note that schools are only required to retain examination certificates for 12 months following the examination series. We are therefore approaching the point at which any uncollected certificates will either be returned to the relevant examination boards or securely destroyed.

To avoid this, I would strongly encourage you to arrange for their collection. Although the school is now closed for the summer break, I have planned for certificates to be collected from Reception on Wednesday 13 August between 1pm and 2pm & Wednesday 20 August between 1pm and 2pm.

Certificates may be collected either by the student themselves or by a nominated individual. If someone is collecting on the student’s behalf, they will be required to present both photographic identification and written permission from the student.

Please be aware that once the certificates have been returned or destroyed, you would need to contact the awarding bodies directly to request replacements. Unfortunately, this process carries a charge.

While certificates may not seem immediately essential, we often receive requests for them many years later, particularly for employment or further education purposes. For this reason, we strongly recommend collecting and securely storing them.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

CERTIFICATES FROM SUMMER 2025

  • Cannot be posted
  • Must be signed for from Reception after 11th December

If you are leaving us for a new destination, from Monday 11 December 2025 between the hours of 11am and 2pm your certificates will be available for collection from Reception on a drop-in basis (please bring ID to prove your identity) until Monday 10 February 2025 (just before Spring half term).  After half term, certificates will be stored securely until  18th July 2026 – please contact Reception in advance to arrange collection.  It is very important to collect your certificates and look after them carefully, as you will need them in the future and replacements are very expensive and difficult to obtain. The Piggott School is not obliged to retain certificates after a year and unclaimed certificates may be destroyed or returned to the exam board; you would have to approach each exam board directly for replacement certificates, at a significant monetary cost.
