PSHE and RSHE

Vision

Healthy, Happy, Safe

At Charvil Piggott Primary School, we want all children to grow up healthy, happy, safe and able to navigate their way through the challenges of life in modern Britain. This includes helping them to deal with critical issues they face every day such as friendships, emotional well-being and change and giving them a solid foundation for whatever challenging opportunities lie ahead.

Intent

Our PSHE teaching is designed to equip our students with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their individual well-being, relationships, and what it means to live in the wider world.  Our curriculum builds on the learning our pupils experience each year from foundation to primary and on to secondary level as well as the input of parental guidance. The healthiness and happiness of our pupils is a main priority and our PSHE curriculum complements the work of inclusion leads, charity and fundraising events, assemblies and many other school-led well-being initiatives.

Implementation

We have a whole school approach to Personal, Social and Health Education (including Relationships and Sex Education).  We follow a bespoke scheme of work which is heavily but not exclusively based on quality assured resources created by the PSHE Association. It combines:

  • PSHE (including all statutory RSHE requirements)
  • Our six school values
  • Emotional literacy (including Zones of Regulation)
  • Mindfulness
  • Social skills
  • Financial literacy
  • Character Education
  • Spiritual Development
  • Whole School Values Days
  • Behaviour Curriculum

The curriculum aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world. All lessons are delivered in an age- and stage-appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs.
