Year 3 Trip to Chiltern Open Air Museum

On Monday 9th October, Year 3 visited the Chiltern Open Air Museum.

In our first workshop we went back in time to the Stone Age and met a woman called Heidi, who spoke to us about Stone Age life.  We then got to try different Stone Age activities, which included fire lighting, making pigment to draw on trees, shelter building and making jewellery.

After lunch we explored the grounds looking at the old buildings that had been built over time.  The children really enjoyed seeing the different types of houses and barns from Victorian and WW1 times.

It was then time for the second workshop. This time the children went back to the Iron Age.  The children were met outside the Iron Age house by man holding a spear.  The children were very excited about this. The children learned about how Iron Age people survived. They had a go at making flour, bread and butter.  The final activity was making a clay pot that the children got to keep and take home.

At the end of the day, all of us quickly got back to the coach and the coach took us all the way back to school as we waved goodbye to the museum. Although it was tiring, it was very exciting.  We had a tremendous time!
