English Schools' Football Success

Our U15 Girls Football team travelled down to Millfield School in Somerset for their quarter-final game of the English Schools Cup. Millfield school pride themselves on being one of the best sports schools in the country, therefore we knew we were in for a tough match! A 6 hour round trip but the girls were excited and nervous but couldn't wait to get going!  When we arrived we were amazed by their brilliant facilities and ground, even though it had rained all day the pitch was in perfect conditions.

The game started lively with Piggott controlling the game for the first 15 minutes, however as the first half went by, Millfield started to get a hold of the game. The whistle was blown for half-time and the deadlock was yet to be broke, 0-0. Another 40 minutes went by where both teams had their chances but the game still remained 0-0. Into extra time we went. Piggott dug deep, remained focused and played some brilliant football as they had done all game. With 1 minute of extra time to be played and penalties looming, it was Bea who played a perfect ball into the box for Blossom to smash into the bottom corner. 1-0.

Millfield threw everything at them in the last seconds of the game but the girls held on to secure themselves a place in the Semi-Finals of the English Schools National Cup. You can imagine the scenes at full time. An outstanding team performance. Just to put it into perspective, out of 388 schools, The Piggott School have made it into the last 4 and are just one game away from the Final, which they fully deserve to be in! They are history makers as no team in Piggott School History have ever made it this far. We are so proud of their achievements, it has been an incredible and dedicated journey which have worked so hard for.  Well done girls!
