Head Teacher’s Update
Whilst the weather this Spring has continued to dampen everyone’s spirits at times, there is no doubt that the sun shone literally and metaphorically on Year 11s last Friday, for their final ‘formal day’ of study at School before the start of the exam season. The warmth of the weather reflected the enormous warmth these students showed towards each other and my colleagues, whilst various ‘rites of passage’ were observed e.g. book signing, shirt signing and their final assembly. A departure for this year’s students was to hold their Prom at Sonning Golf Club and this was also a great success on Friday evening, with all manner of transport being used for that all-important arrival. Admittedly this caused a few hold ups in the roads around the club for a brief period but I hope everyone took it in the friendly spirit intended and even enjoyed some of the spectacle; our students were immaculate and charming throughout the evening. And after the excitement they are all back in school to take their exams, attend last-minute revision sessions and support lessons – along with Year 12, whose external exams have also now started. The programme this year has been distorted by the lateness of half term and the Jubilee celebrations, but at least these (as well as the Olympics) gives us all something to look forward to later in the summer – when we hope the sun will make a further appearance. We are planning a Jubilee Tea Party after half term and will let you know about that in due course. As it is Christian Aid week at the moment, we are having a non-uniform day this Friday, the proceeds from which being donated to this charity. |
