Founders Project 2009
The Piggott School Governors would like to consider the possibility of a major project that would provide improved accommodation for the staff and students at the School. There are many areas which are in need of either expansion or refurbishment (or both) and a long-term programme of improvement would help to clarify where our first priorities should lie.Of course, all parts of the School could benefit from improvement and it is making a decision about the priorities that will be difficult. Any of the following could be deemed as ‘vital’ for instance:
- Expansion and improvements to our Art and Photography facilities
- Refurbishing and perhaps re-siting our Technology facilities (currently housed in different parts of the School)
- Refurbishing and re-siting our Mathematics facilities (currently housed in different parts of the School)
- Enlarged and improved facilities for the Sixth Form
- Updating and enlarging changing facilities for PE
- Creating a new Performing Arts facility at School, to benefit Music, Drama, Dance and perhaps also for external lettings
Any of the above – and a number of other projects throughout the School – could be justifiably placed at the top of a priority list – but a final decision about which has to be made before we begin. Therefore, input from as many interested parties as possible is being sought before a final decision is made; the Governors wish this to be a project that will appeal to, and benefit as many people as possible.
An Open Meeting is being held on October 20th – in the School Library, starting at 7.00pm – where parents and Governors can hear opinions and listen to suggestions. There are currently no preferred options and no costings have yet been made. This is an initial ‘sounding’ to hear parental views before further steps are taken.
Similar meetings will take place after half term where Governors meet with students and staff to gauge interest and opinions.
