Haiti Earthquake Appeal - January to March 2010
During the Spring Term we usually have a fund raising project, challenging every tutor group to raise money for a particular cause.
In the aftermath of the Haiti Earthquake, it seemed appropriate to devote our efforts to sending help to the victims of this disaster.
World Vision UK has launched an Earthquake Appeal and their Global Rapid Response Team are distributing emergency survival kits as well as medical supplies to local hospitals in Haiti:
- £14 can provide hygiene kits for two families
- £42 can provide temporary shelter for a family
- £80 can provide meals for 20 families

Tutor groups have been challenged to try to support one of these World Vision projects up until Easter 2010.
The Piggott students came up with various innovative ways of raising money:
- One tutor group wore wigs or coloured their hair.
- Another group wore pyjamas all day or wore ‘Hoodies for Haiti’.
- Some students took part in a sponsored silence while a couple of students held a sponsored bike ride.
- The cake stall, which is always a popular fund raiser, was also very profitable.
- The Year 7 tutor groups raised a magnificent total of £885 and the rest of the school raised a similar amount.
- A non-uniform day was held prior to half term
the total from all the events has reached a magnificent £2865 (1st March 2010).
Parents and students should be congratulated on raising such an amazing amount, taking into account the present economic climate. It is heartwarming to know that people still care about others less fortunate than themselves.
Remembrance Day
A Remembrance Service is held each year in remembrance of former Piggott School pupils who died in the two world wars.
