Learning Pathways
The Sixth Form at The Piggott School is open to all students who are prepared to work. Choosing courses at this stage in your education can be daunting and our aim is to guide students towards appropriate choices which reflect the ability, aptitudes and interests of each individual.
Our courses cover both the traditional academic and vocational routes, the latter a significant development in recent years. The academic route will usually lead to university and the quality of guidance which you receive as you consider, select and embark on these courses is very important: the experience and insight of our staff will support you through this process and put you in a strong position for university applications in the second year of the Sixth Form. The vocational route can lead to more varied outcomes and we focus on providing each student with personalised support which addresses his or her own particular abilities and aspirations.
Central to the success of each learning pathway is the development of independent study skills. All Sixth Form students undertake a detailed induction programme which aims to develop the skills they will need to support their learning both in the next couple of years and once they leave school; we do not assume that it comes easily to everyone and the form tutor will mentor each student to ensure that the many transitions which take place during this stage of an individual’s education are as smooth as possible.
Our course menu is broad and increasingly diverse. With focused support and guidance, each and every student can expect to embark on a learning pathway which will ensure success during his or her time in the Sixth Form and build strong foundations for further study.
